Kaspersky Launches New Online Cybersecurity Training for ‘Windows Digital Forensics’

In 2023, the persistence of cyberattacks for over a month highlighted the critical need for businesses to reduce “detection-to-resolution” times. This urgency underscores the importance of efficient incident management, a challenge exacerbated by ongoing skills shortages in cybersecurity. Addressing this gap, Kaspersky has introduced the ‘Windows Digital Forensics’ training course, aimed at empowering professionals with essential skills in incident response.

Led by Ayman Shaaban, Digital Forensics and Incident Response Group Manager at Kaspersky, the course equips participants with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in digital forensics. Key aspects covered include detecting digital traces of attack progression, acquiring diverse digital evidence, analyzing Windows artifacts for timestamps, and examining browser and email histories. By the course’s conclusion, trainees become proficient in incident scoping, evidence acquisition, log file analysis, network analysis, creation of Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), and memory forensics.

The training includes practical exercises in a secure virtual lab environment designed to assess and enhance participants’ skills effectively. It forms part of Kaspersky’s broader series of incident response courses, enabling cybersecurity professionals to tailor their education in this critical field. Both individual practitioners and organizations aiming to strengthen their incident response capabilities stand to benefit significantly from this comprehensive training initiative.

Ayman Shaaban emphasizes the importance of cyber-resilience, advocating for centralized log management, robust data retention practices, and the ability to conduct prompt forensic investigations to mitigate cyber threats effectively. This training equips professionals with the necessary expertise to swiftly manage, contain, understand, and recover from cyber incidents, thereby minimizing their impact and bolstering organizational resilience against evolving threats.
